CPM Training

The Center for Public Management (CPM) is the professional development arm of the School of Public Affairs, home to the NASPAA accredited Master of Pulic Administration Program, #1 in Texas for Local Government Management and #1 for Public Budgeting and Finance. For nearly 35 years, CPM has served as a resource for lifelong learning and professional education. Our trainings are practitioner informed, university shaped and for the public good.

We are currently offering two trainings:

Financial Essentials for Nonprofit Leaders (FENL)
Designed specifically for nonprofit leaders looking to get a better grasp on financial essentials, this self-paced course will help you read financial statements, such as balance sheets, and income statements, and use that to weigh in on real decisions. You'll also learn how to diversify your funding sources, build financial resilience, and match your mission to the right kind of donor.

Public Fund Investment Act (PFIA)
The Public Funds Investment Act (Chapter 2256, Texas Government Code) requires treasurers, chief financial officers, and investment officers of local governments, including all political subdivisions, state agencies, and institutions of higher education (including community colleges), to complete training on topics pertaining to the PFIA. Most officials in these positions must complete the training every two years.

You can either register for the entire two-day workshop or each day, respectively.
October 8-9, 2026
